“How do I manage kids?” Do you wonder where to begin? Whether you are in the classroom or working in an afterschool program, explore, learn and engage in hands-on activities, personal connection and strategies to utilize with youth from all backgrounds. We will facilitate dialogue about how to develop strong relationships with youth, lead by example, and inspire your students.

Early education afterschool professionals will walk through a STEM activity rooted in an age appropriate book. Participants will learn about resources specifically for force and motion topics as well as general STEM teaching resources. Attendees will walk away with bite size science activities that they can implement immediately.

NBA Math Hoops leverages the game of basketball and the NBA/WNBA brands to build fundamental math and social-emotional skills through a physical and digital basketball-themed board game, a curriculum, and a community program experience. Designed for students in grades 4-8, this free program develops students’ algebra readiness prior to entering high school, while strengthening important skills including self-regulation and executive function. Through the workshop, educators will learn best practices for implementing the NBA Math Hoops game and curriculum, gain access to the program management platform and all program materials, and learn about opportunities to extend students’ learning through community events.

The maker philosophy is exciting and growing in popularity, but how do we design safe experiences for young children on expensive and complicated equipment? Community partners and after-school STEM educators will learn and try out simplified software and equipment, safety techniques, and lesson design strategies to help our K-5 students begin to embrace their maker ideas in an age-appropriate way. In this hands-on presentation, put yourself in the shoes of our students and leave with the confidence that they can be makers too.
